At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we need people like you who have chosen to work in an area that will enable them to serve their country. This is a privilege, but also a huge responsibility. Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova said at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of International Relations at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE). The event was attended by representatives of the university's management, the academic community, diplomats, lecturers and students.
In her welcome address, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of academic institutions in building not only expertise, but also a community of people who carry Bulgaria in their heart.
In her words, the diplomatic profession requires not only expertise and knowledge of its specifics, but also drive, diligence, and patience in the service of the country. "My goal is for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be an institution in which you want to work and for working for Bulgaria to be a common cause for all of us," she said.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the role of diplomacy in the current international environment, emphasizing its ability to find solutions to conflicts even where they seem impossible. She encouraged students to take advantage of the wide opportunities this profession provides.
In this context, Minister Petrova also announced the forthcoming renewal of the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UNWE. This will allow the partnership to be put on a new basis and continue to develop dynamically in the coming years.
The Foreign Minister also held a meeting with the Rector of the University of National and World Economy, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Ralchev, Head of the Department of International Relations. Specific opportunities for deepening cooperation between the ministry and the university were discussed, with an emphasis on the practical training of students and the creation of more opportunities for professional realization of young people in the diplomatic service.
