On May 9, 2026, for another consecutive year, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Washington, D.C. opened its doors to thousands of visitors as part of the traditional EU Open House, organized under the auspices of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States.
The event is among the most prominent public diplomacy initiatives in Washington, D.C. and an established part of the city’s cultural calendar, attracting many visitors seeking to immerse themselves in the spirit, traditions, and cultural richness of Europe.
This year, the Bulgarian Embassy welcomed more than 1,000 guests, who had the opportunity to discover Bulgaria through authentic folklore, traditional folk costumes, and information about inspiring tourist destinations. Visitors also enjoyed a selection of Bulgarian food, beverages, and wines, as well as products made from essential oils.
A special highlight of the program was the rich folklore performance presented by the “Orphea” Vocal Ensemble, led by Tatyana Sarbinska, and the “Zherava” and “Zdravets” dance groups of the Bulgarian Educational and Cultural Center “Kliment Ohridski” Washington, D.C. directed by Desi Jordanoff. The celebration was further enriched by children from the Bulgarian Educational and Cultural Center “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Washington, who performed songs from the production “We Are the Colors.” Ms. Yulia Tasheva, head of the Center’s theater school, also entertained guests with puppet performances throughout the day.
The Embassy staff extends special thanks to its partners, who supported Bulgaria’s participation with their signature products: International Wines and Spirits, Balkanica USA, Kalitko LLC, Trimona Yogurt, doTERRA Essential Oils USA, LemaRose Cosmetics, as well as to Ms. Slavyanka Betova, folk dance teacher at the Botev Academy Bulgarian School, for providing the traditional folk costumes.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to all volunteers, performers, and friends who, through their hard work, dedication, and inspiration, contributed to a dignified and impressive presentation of Bulgaria in the heart of Washington, D.C.
