08 December 2025 News

On 1 December 2025, Ambassador Maria P. Tzotzorkova presented her Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, H.E. Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, at a ceremony held at the State House in Port Louis.

During the meeting with the President, Ambassador Tzotzorkova highlighted the longstanding relations of friendship and mutual respect between Bulgaria and Mauritius, established in 1975. She expressed her satisfaction that her accreditation coincided with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, providing an opportunity to reinvigorate bilateral cooperation, cultural exchange and people-to-people contacts.

The Bulgarian Ambassador emphasised Bulgaria’s considerable potential to contribute to closer cooperation in key areas, including agriculture and agro-processing, innovation, information technology and artificial intelligence. Trade and economic relations, investment, tourism and educational cooperation were also identified as promising areas for further engagement.

Both sides agreed that Bulgaria was a valued and preferred partner of Mauritius and expressed their shared readiness to advance bilateral relations towards a more pragmatic and results-oriented phase.

During her visit, Ambassador Tzotzorkova also paid courtesy calls on the Prime Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, H.E. Mr Dhananjay Ramful. Discussions focused on priority areas for deepening bilateral cooperation and the prospects for a visit to Mauritius by a Bulgarian government and business delegation.

The Mauritian side reaffirmed its readiness to establish a structured framework for cooperation and develop joint projects in innovation, tourism, the environment, education and research. The opportunities for Bulgaria to contribute to Mauritius’s efforts to diversify its economy and strengthen its technical and expert capacity were also emphasised.
